CMS Projects Receive ABC Award of Excellence

MAUMEE, OH — The Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Indiana/Kentucky recently awarded CMS Corporation (CMS) the 2018 Award of Excellence for projects at Purdue University, IN and Detroit Arsenal, Warren, MI. The Purdue Flex Lab Facility project received the Award of Excellence in Construction in the “Mechanical/ Commercial” category and the Detroit Arsenal Tank Command (TACOM) Miscellaneous Repairs, Building 230 in the “Federal Government/Military/Under $10M” category.

For the Purdue Flex Lab Facility, CMS performed mechanical scopes of work, including campus-wide systems integration, for the construction of a new 107,800-SF multidisciplinary engineering research building. As the prime mechanical subcontractor for this $54M state-of-the-art facility, CMS met the prime contractor’s mechanical requirements and expectations for constructability, design, function, operation, and life span. Work on the new facility began in 2016 and was completed in the fall of 2018. CMS self-performed over half the mechanical scope and also managed specialized mechanical contractors for quality, timeliness, and professional conduct.

As the prime contractor for the $3.6M design-build renovation of Building 230 at Detroit Arsenal, CMS reconfigured existing spaces to provide 200 work stations, 35 new offices, 4 copier/filing areas, 2 conference/team rooms, and a kitchenette/break room. CMS also upgraded the existing HVAC system and installed furnishings. Overall, CMS delivered an aesthetically pleasing, comfortable space for Army personnel that was in like-new condition, durable, maintainable, and sustainable. All work integrated seamlessly with the Arsenal’s other buildings and finishes.

The Award of Excellence honors the skill and creativity of project teams, including the contractor, owner, architect, and engineer, responsible for outstanding merit shop construction projects. CMS was recognized by ABC for excelling in innovation, quality, and safety on both projects.

Khush Mander, Executive Vice President, was on hand with other members of CMS to accept both awards at the ABC 2018 Merit Shop Construction Awards Gala on September 27, 2018 at the Crowne Plaza in downtown Indianapolis, IN.

Siemens Government Technologies Selects CMS for Large Energy Performance Contract at the JSMC Tank Plant

BARGERSVILLE, IN – CMS Corporation (CMS), a leading mechanical construction firm providing turnkey and design-build services, announced today that it has been awarded a $8.7 million design-build (D-B) turnkey contract with Siemens Government Technologies (SGT) to install thirty-seven (37) steam-fired heat recovery units (HRUs) equipped with advanced enthalpic plates, and a single large air handling unit (AHU) at the JSMC Tank Plant in Lima, Ohio. The USACE Huntsville District has oversight of this Contract. The scope of work will include the removal and demolition of the existing HRUs and associated piping, electrical services, controls, and appurtenances. CMS will also supply and install controls with native BACnet connectivity to permit integration to a new facility-wide building management system on the new HRUs, as well as VFDs on the HRUs and exhaust fans. The project does not require any government spend as it will be funded by the energy savings resulting from the system upgrade; and in-line with environmental goals there will be a nice reduction in the facility’s carbon footprint.

“This contract represents an excellent opportunity for CMS to continue to develop a strong relationship with SGT and to demonstrate CMS’s extensive mechanical construction skillset to SGT and the Army Corp of Engineers in the performance contracting space,” said Ernest Enrique, CEO of CMS.

CMS Project Receives ABC Award of Excellence

BARGERSVILLE, IN — The Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Indiana/Kentucky recently awarded CMS Corporation (CMS) the 2017 Award of Excellence in the “Federal Government Over $10M” Division for a $27.1M design-build project to recapitalize deep draft berthing Wharf Charlie 2 (C-2) at Naval Station (NS) Mayport, FL. CMS was recognized by ABC for excelling in “innovation, quality, communication, and safety” on this project.

The Award of Excellence honors the skill and creativity of the entire project team – contractor, owner, architect, and engineer – responsible for an outstanding merit shop construction project. CMS constructed a new steel bulkhead and fuel delivery system at the existing Wharf C-2, successfully navigating a number of unique challenges along the way, including extensive dewatering of excavations of 10 to 20 feet below sea level, working at heights over water, and heavy rigging (including crane work from landside over water and from barge over water).

CEO Ernest Enrique noted, “Despite the many challenges of this high hazard project, the CMS project team worked 157,000 labor hours with zero lost-time incidents. For example, we performed over 2,000 crane lifts (including nearly 500 critical lifts) without incident. Overall, our successful completion of this project has extended the service life of the wharf bulkhead by an additional 50 years.”

In addition to the Award of Excellence, CMS was also recognized as an ABC Safety Training Evaluation Process (STEP) winner at the Platinum Level. The program recognizes the efforts of firms that consistently strive to achieve effective, best safety practices on jobsites and provides contractors with a tool to objectively evaluate their safety programs, policies, and procedures.

Ernest Enrique, CEO, and Mercedes Enrique, President, were on hand to accept the award at the ABC 2017 Merit Shop Construction Awards Gala on September 28, 2017 at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in downtown Indianapolis, IN.
