CMS Achieves “Accredited Quality Contractor” Status From ABC

Maumee, OH – CMS Corporation (CMS) of Bargersville, IN and Maumee, OH announced today that it has been named an Accredited Quality Contractor (AQC) by the Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) organization for its commitment to corporate responsibility. ABC’s selective AQC program was launched in 1993, and only 229 of the nation’s elite merit shop construction contractors earned this credential in 2020.

CMS CEO, Ernest Enrique, stated, “We are pleased and grateful to receive this prestigious designation. CMS strives for excellence in each of the five adjudicated areas for this credential: quality, safety performance, talent management, craft, and management education, and community relations, inclusion, diversity, and equity.”

ABC National Chair of the Board of Directors, Steve Klessig (VP of Architecture and Engineering, Keller Inc.) stated, “Accredited Quality Contractors are the types of companies I want to work for and do business with because of the priority placed on world-class safety, culture, workforce development, innovation, diversity and quality. Congratulations to the leadership and employees of CMS Corporation for your daily commitment to corporate and community service; you exemplify the merit shop philosophy and what’s best about ABC membership.”

In earning the AQC credential, each member company commits to world-class safety by achieving Gold, Platinum, or Diamond level in ABC’s STEP Safety Management System. Founded more than three decades ago, STEP dramatically improves safety performance among construction industry participants, with top performers achieving incident rates more than eight times safer than the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics industry average. CMS recently achieved Diamond level, the highest level, in ABC’s STEP safety program.

Published as a supplement to Construction Executive magazine, the ABC Top Performers lists identify industry top performers in a number of categories, including Top 200 Performers, Top Trade Contractors, Top Specialty Contractors, etc., all of which have earned the elite Accredited Quality Contractor (AQC) credential, as well as the “Top Performers With Special Designations.”

Company CEO Ernest Enrique stated, “CMS has been a member of ABC for nearly 10 years. During this time, ABC has recognized CMS, a merit-based construction contractor, via numerous excellence-in-construction and safety awards. To be eligible, CMS demonstrated world-class safety performance by achieving Gold status or higher in ABC’s Safety Training Evaluation Process (STEP) Safety Management System, which makes the top-performing contractors up to 655% safer than the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics industry average, according to the ABC 2020 Safety Performance Report. Top Performers were ranked by size based on the number of hours worked in 2019, as reported in their 2020 STEP applications. ABC members that earn the AQC credential certify their commitment to quality, safety, craft and management education, talent management, inclusion, diversity and equity and community relations.

CMS is a previous recipient of numerous ABC awards, including the STEP Award, Platinum Level (2020), and the “Award of Excellence in Construction, Federal Government/Military Under $10M” category (2018). This is the second time CMS has been named to ABC’s Top Performers with Special Designations” list.
